You’ve probably seen the signs going up at your favourite stores. We’re talking about pretty simple pieces of paper or cardboard, usually with social distancing guidelines scrawled on in Sharpie, or typed up in Microsoft Word and printed out.
As we start returning to in-person work, you’re probably thinking about whether or not you’ll need to break out the markers and printouts for your workplace.
When it comes to something as important as your employee’s safety, it’s important that you don’t cut corners. In particular, that means:
- Putting in place policies to protect staff members
- Implementing rules mandating masks, gloves and hand washing
- Taking steps to maintain distancing and minimise physical contact
And of course, it means kitting your workplace out with appropriate signs to communicate these policies and rules.
In addition to our core business of hazchem signs, emergency information panels and dangerous goods labels, our team have also recently introduced a range of signs designed to help you prepare your business for a return to work in the post COVID-19 world…
Why DIY signs won’t cut it anymore
They’re only temporary
Don’t get us wrong, as a temporary solution a paper printout will work fine.
Unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the virus is going to stick around for a while, and that we’ll all have to stay on our guard for the foreseeable future.
With such a long timeline, it’s probably for the best that you upgrade your signage to a more permanent solution.
And that means a proper sign.
Set-and-forget
Paper printouts need to be replaced as they inevitably tear or the tape holding them up wears out.
Replacing them only takes a couple of minutes – however, that’s still time that you could use to do something else!
With a proper metal sign secured firmly, you won’t need to worry about issues like fading, wear or anything like that. Once it’s up, you can be confident that you won’t have to do anything to it for years.
A proper sign gets taken seriously
What does a paper sign tell you?
No, we aren’t talking about the words written on it – we’re talking about the fact that it’s a paper sign, with a message scrawled on it in Sharpie. What does that tell you?
Simple: that this isn’t permanent. That it’s only a request, and not a demand.
But what about a proper sign? That tells people that you’re serious, and that this is a rule that’s meant to be followed.
Social distancing signs
One of the most effective ways of keeping your team safe and healthy? Making sure that they keep their distance from one another as much as possible.
There are many ways to do this, ranging from physical barriers all the way to more creative solutions:
- Installing barriers to separate staff
- Using duct tape or spray paint to maintain distancing
- And of course, putting up signs to remind your staff
Of course, when it comes to signs, not just any old sign will do. While pieces of cardboard with Sharpie on them will get the job done, they don’t exactly look very professional, do they?
That’s where our new range of social distancing signs come in.
Expanded mandatory sign catalogue
Our online sign shop stocks a huge range of mandatory signs for all sorts of situations.
And now, we’re adding mandatory distance and mandatory hand washing signs to the list!
Our expanded catalogue of mandatory signs now features mandatory social distancing signs that feature simple, easy-to-understand graphics, as well as the minimum distance required, just in case (1.5 metres).
That isn’t the only thing we’ve added to our mandatory sign catalogue – we’ve also added mandatory hand washing signs to our list of workplace safety signs as well.
Together, these signs ensure that your new policies regarding hand washing and social distancing are followed once your team gets back to work.
Of course, that isn’t all we’ve added to our online sign shop…
Floor adhesives
So this is new uncharted territory for us – luckily, we think we’ve done a pretty good job with them!
In addition to metal hazchem signs and emergency information panels, our range of dangerous goods labels also includes adhesive signs that are applied to the sides of boxes and containers.
If you’ve done a grocery run recently, you’ve no doubt noticed that the local supermarket features floor stickers laying out required distance and approved spots to stand.
When we saw supermarkets using stickers and tape to enforce distancing, we thought to ourselves “we could do something like that!”
Let’s face it, most of the time your team’s eyes aren’t on signs.
Instead, they spend much of the day looking down, focusing on their work. Unfortunately, this also means that your workplace emergency safety signs go unseen for much of the day.
For a reminder that your team won’t miss, we’ve got a range of floor stickers to ensure that your social distancing rules are followed. This includes stickers identifying places where your team can safely stand without putting themselves at risk, as well as stickers that:
- Remind your staff to wash their hands
- Locate sanitiser locations
- Prohibit staff from entering certain areas
How-to and general signs
As many of us have learned recently, there’s a very specific way to wash your hands. And that many people haven’t been washing their hands properly for their entire lives!
Luckily, we’ve got you covered there as well.
As part of our range of COVID-19 signs, we’ve added how-to signs. Specifically, signs outlining proper handwashing technique.
We suggest getting some of these installed above sinks and wash basins (alongside a large supply of antibacterial soap) to ensure that people are cleaning up properly.
Not to mention, it’s just a good habit to get into!
We also provide a range of general signs as well that ensure that your team know the risks and the new rules, which we recommend putting up at regular intervals at your workplace.
